2016 KTM 1290 Super Duke R Limited Edition
KTM’s flagship roadster, the 1290 Super Duke R, will get a visual and mechanical overhaul for 2017. A near production ready test mule of the updated 2017 Super Duke R was recently spotted near the KTM’s headquarters in Austria. Visual upgrades for the 2017 model will include redesigned bodywork and an updated headlight, which is said to be a full-LED unit. The tank shrouds get a new look while the rear panel is on the sub-frame is missing. We are sure the production spec model will get a rear panel.
It’s all about Euro-4 compliance with newer motorcycles and thus KTM may equip the Super Duke R with the Euro 4-compliant motor of the 2016 1290 Super Duke GT. The changes on the 1301cc V-twin engine include a re-designed exhaust and cylinder head. These updates are claimed to have pushed the peak power of 173hp higher to 9,500 rpm. The updated motor is also said to have brought down the peak torque of 144Nm at 1,000 revs lower and now available at 6,750rpm. The 2017 KTM 1290 Super Duke R is also expected to receive enhanced electronics.
The motorcycle was spotted without any camouflage and appeared to be near production ready. Thus, we expect to hear some official announcement about the model in the near future unless KTM plans to unveil the model later in the year at EICMA Motorcycle Show. We will keep you posted.
