Toyota Trademarks ‘Taisor’ Name In India

Automaker giant Toyota has recently trademarked a new nameplate in the country – the ‘Taisor’. This new nameplate could be used for Toyota’s version of the Maruti Baleno Cross. As we know by now that the two Japanese automakers are in a partnership in India giving rise to badge-engineered models such as the Toyota Glanza based on the Maruti Suzuki Baleno and the Toyota Urban Cruiser based on the Maruti Vitara Brezza. We have seen not just badge-engineered models but also completely new cars which are co-developed by both manufacturers like the newly launched Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder & the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara SUV that marked the entry of the two automakers into the hotly growing mid-size 5-seater SUV segment.

A new camouflaged vehicle; the upcoming Baleno Cross has been spotted by many being tested on Indian roads. And it is believed that Toyota trademarking a new name could mean that Toyota’s version of the Baleno-based crossover would get the ‘Taisor’ name. With the details scarcely available, what we do know is that Toyota’s Baleno Cross will come powered with a 1.2-liter naturally aspirated 4-cylinder petrol engine or a 1.0-liter booster jet turbo-petrol engine mated to both manual and automatic options. On the inside, features like a head-up display, 360-degree camera, large-sized touchscreen supporting android auto, apple car play, and automatic climate control along with a premium upholstered cabin are expected. Although, the Taisor badge could be given to any of its new upcoming products as well.

Maruti’s sub-4 meter SUV, the Brezza has been launched in its new generation form while Toyota’s Urban Cruiser is yet to be seen, but Toyota has already used the Urban Cruiser suffix branding for its Hyryder. With Maruti also having dropped the Vitara suffix from its sub-4 meter SUV to avoid confusion with its bigger ‘Grand Vitara’, speculations are that Toyota could be planning something on similar lines for its version of the Brezza, thereby naming it the Taisor.
