Toyota Showcases Innova Hycross Flex Fuel, Mirai, Hyryder CNG

Toyota has taken the spotlight at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2024 in New Delhi by showcasing a fleet of alternative fuel vehicles.

The brand’s commitment to sustainability is evident in the diverse lineup, featuring five models that cater to various fuel options.

Toyota’s Focus on Alternative Fuels

At the Bharat Mobility Global Expo, Toyota’s display is dominated by vehicles embracing alternative fuel sources. In a market where petrol, petrol-hybrid, CNG, and diesel-powered models prevail, Toyota is championing a more sustainable future with its forward-thinking approach.

Mirai: Toyota’s Hydrogen-Powered Car

Kicking off the showcase is the Toyota Mirai, a Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV) that operates on hydrogen. While already available in select global markets, the Mirai serves as Toyota’s technology demonstration in India, providing a glimpse into the brand’s commitment to cutting-edge technology.

Innova Hycross Flex Fuel Prototype

Standing proudly on display is the made-in-India Innova Hycross flex fuel prototype, a vehicle that exemplifies Toyota’s dedication to flexible fuel solutions.

Powered by a 2.0-litre Atkinson Cycle petrol engine paired with an electric motor, this prototype can efficiently run on ethanol-blended petrol, offering remarkably low hydrocarbon emissions.

Eco-Friendly Operation of Innova Hycross Flex Fuel

As a strong hybrid, the Innova Hycross flex-fuel prototype operates predominantly on electric mode, utilizing the battery pack for 60% of its operation.

The remaining 40% is seamlessly handled by the ethanol-powered engine, resulting in what Toyota claims to be the lowest well-to-wheel emissions.

Technological Innovations for Ethanol Compatibility

Toyota has implemented various modifications to ensure the Innova Hycross flex-fuel prototype’s optimal functioning with ethanol. This includes different spark plugs, piston ring tops, valves, and valve seats designed to resist water and prevent corrosion when running on ethanol. The exhaust system features a three-way catalyst to further reduce hydrocarbon emissions.

Hyryder CNG and More

In addition to the spotlight on the Innova Hycross, Toyota’s exhibition includes the Hyryder CNG, emphasizing the brand’s commitment to compressed natural gas technology.

Visitors also have the opportunity to explore a specially-designed Hilux emergency response truck, showcasing Toyota’s versatility in meeting diverse automotive needs.
