Toyota Etios sedan to be launched in India on 1st December 2010

Toyota has announced that their much awaited Etios sedan is all set for a launch on the 1st of December 2010. The Etios hatchback will follow suit after two-three months of the Etios sedan’s launch. The Etios sedan and hatchback, which were unveiled at the 2010 Auto Expo in a (almost production ready) concept form will target the Rs. 6-8 lakh and Rs. 3-5 lakh rupee brackets respectively when the go on sale soon. Toyota is aiming high with the Etios sub-brand and has been heavily marketing the vehicle through street shows, presence at exhibitions etc. During the last few months, we even posted spy shots of the Etios sedan and hatchback. While the hatchback is expected to use a 1.2-litre petrol engine when it goes on sale later next year, the Etios sedan is said to use a  larger, 1.5-litre petrol engine when it comes on the 1st of December. A diesel option could be added later to both the vehicles and the 1.5-litre petrol engine could make its way into the Etios hatchback as well, as a premium offering. Toyota are aiming a sale of 70,000 units in the first year and are targeting to achieve a 10 per cent share of the Indian passenger car segment by 2015.

The announcement Etios’ 1st December launch came on Friday, when Toyota signed up veteran composer A. R. Rehman as the brand ambassador for the Etios line-up. A. R. Rehman’s presence as the brand ambassador for this car is sure to spawn a lot of ‘multi-media’ marketing activity. Speaking on the function of Friday, Mr. Hiroshi Nakagawa, managing director, Toyota Kirloskar Motors said, “There is a very strong connect between the product and its brand ambassador, with both being global, innovative, reliable, and a class-above quality.” During the same function, Mr. A. R. Rehman said, “I believe real quality is created when skill meets dedication, when insight meets inspiration, when passion meets perfection. This is why I am happy to be associated with Toyota. The same values drive Toyota in whatever they do.”
