Toyota Chairman Takeshi Uchiyamada meets Prime Minister Narendra Modi

Takeshi Uchiyamada, Chairman of the Board at Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) met with Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India and discussed the growing Indo-Japanese bilateral ties as well as the company’s plans to grow with India. In his meeting with the Prime Minister, Uchiyamada highlighted Toyota’s commitment towards the ‘Make in India’ campaign through continued investments every year since Toyota began operations in the year 1997. Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) first launched the Prius hybrid in India in 2012 and then went on to launch the country’s first locally manufactured hybrid – Camry Hybrid in 2013. Toyota’s interest to popularize hybrids in India in terms of environment and energy saving was also discussed in the meeting.

Uchiyamada who was in India to launch sanitation facilities that the company has built under “Swachh Vidyalaya Campaign” in Varanasi on September 1, 2015 also reiterated  the company’s active participation and commitment in the Government’s “Swachh Bharat Campaign”. The launch event at Varanasi was attended by Union Ministers M. Venkaiah Naidu, Union Minister of Urban Development, Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation, Prakash Javadekar Union Minister of Environment & Forest and Manoj Sinha, Minister of State – Railways.

Since the launch of the Campaign in 2014 initiated by Narendra Modi, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has extended its support to the national programme of girl child sanitation aimed at reducing girl child drop-outs from school. Modi appreciated in particular the quality of sanitation facilities built by TKM. The company has announced the completion of 500 sanitation facilities across 3 locations (Varanasi, Vaishali – Bihar and Ramanagara (Bangalore).
