Volkswagen India has imported several units of the iconic VW Beetle for its launch this year. They have unveiled plans of launching four new cars, the new Beetle, Passat, Tiguan and also an un-named sub-4 metre sedan in the Indian car market (expected to be the Vento CS). The Tiguan will be brought to cater the growing demand for compact SUVs in India.

The Beetle has been a very popular car across the globe ever since it’s launch. In 2009, Volkswagen rolled out the Beetle in India, but the iconic car was discontinued owing to its low sales, it was out of the showrooms as soon as stocks ran out. A sluggish transmission made the previous gen car look overpriced. The new gen version, however, is offered with a contemporary engine-tranny combo, which should have a higher probability of success in this market.

The hatchback will be introduced as a premium product in the country. The India bound Beetle is already available in various international markets since 2013.

The new Volkswagen Beetle maintains it’s iconic retro styling, but is back with extra pounds. The Beetle will be more dynamic and muscular, due to the increase in its length and width than the previous generation model. Packed with a 1.4-liter TSI engine, similar to the one on the Skoda Octavia 1.4 TSI Ambition, with nearly 150bhp of peak power. The engine is expected to come mated with a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission. There is no news of the Beetle being offered with a diesel engine this time around. The Beetle will be imported into the country via the ‘Completely Built Unit’ channel. The Volkswagen Beetle will try its luck against the Mini Cooper and the Abarth 595 in the Indian market.

Fancy one for your girl? What should be the ideal price? This one or the Mini, or the Abarth for you? Do let us know.
