Imagine sitting inside your Tesla and asking it to find a Supercharger, plan a trip with several stops or explain a warning on the screen. You can now do that using your voice. Tesla has added its Grok AI assistant to the Model Y in India through a free software update.
The update brings several new voice and navigation functions to the electric SUV. Tesla has also started test drives for the Model Y Premium RWD at its experience centres in major Indian cities.
Grok AI comes to the Tesla Model Y
Grok is the biggest part of the latest software update. It can be used without paying anything extra and is delivered through Tesla’s over-the-air update system.
Drivers can activate it in two ways:
- Say “Hey Grok” inside the car
- Press and hold the voice button on the steering wheel
The assistant also supports several Indian languages. These include Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, Telugu, Tamil and Kannada.
Grok can handle several tasks using voice commands. It can help plan journeys with multiple stops and search for places near the driver.
It can also find:
- Tesla Superchargers
- Restaurants and coffee shops
- Hospitals
- ATMs
- Toilets and other nearby locations
Another useful function is the ability to explain warning messages and alerts shown on the car’s display. Owners can also adjust the assistant’s language, tone and conversational style.

Tesla Model Y gets smarter navigation
The software update also brings an improvement to Tesla’s automatic navigation system.
Earlier, the system focused mainly on familiar locations such as home and work. The latest update can suggest other destinations by looking at the driver’s habits and schedule.
Tesla says the Summer 2026 software update adds more AI-based functions to its vehicles. The company also says more than 300 new or updated features were delivered globally through OTA updates during 2025.

Tesla Model Y: Rivals in India
The Model Y competes with electric SUVs such as the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6 and BYD Sealion 7.
The new Grok integration gives the Model Y another technology feature for Indian buyers. Since the update is delivered free through OTA software, existing owners can also get the new functions without visiting a service centre.
