Tata Tiago to roll out with AMT gearbox onboard

Tata Tiago

Incase this is your first time with the name – Tiago, or you might have forgotten, Tata Motors has successfully renamed their still-to-be-launched hatchback as the Tata Tiago. The hatchback has been in the news from the time of its inception, ironically only in new and not in showrooms yet. We have been updating you guys with the whole life cycle of this car till now, from its unveil to a first drive review, and further to an unlucky coincidence (Zika virus) that caused a renaming of the car. The home grown auto-maker also planned to roll out perfumes and chocolates to tickle the 7 senses of the customers.

Yet again we have an update regarding the Tiago, the compact car is expected to roll out with Automated Manual transmission (AMT) kit on both petrol and diesel variants. The diesel powered AMT version of the Tiago will be a first in its segment. On production the Tiago AMT will be the third AMT equipped car from the automaker, following the Tata Zest diesel and the GenX Nano. Interestingly, Tata Motors is also geared up to localise the production of the AMT kits in order to meet the rising demands of the GenX Nano AMT. Subsequently the auto-maker shouldn’t find any problems to match the demands.

The petrol-powered Tiago will draw power from a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder petrol unit, named as Revotron 1.2L that will generate 85PS of power at 6,000rpm and a peak torque of 114Nm of peak torque at 3,500rpm. On both, petrol and diesel varints, the power is pushed to the wheels by a 5-speed manual transmission. The Tiago is also equipped with ‘City’ and ‘Eco’ driving modes.

Tata Motors unveiled the compact car last year, we drove it, reviewed it, made chocolates and perfume, renamed it to Tiago and now the AMT kit upgrade; but the question still remains, when will it be launched? Well no official words on that yet. Anyway we have our fingers crossed and are waiting to see the Tiago in the showrooms, till then stay tuned with us for latest updates.
