The Tata Altroz finally gets the much-requested automatic transmission option in its lineup after 2 years! It comes equipped with a dual-clutch automatic transmission mated to the 1.2-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine. Tata Motors has claimed that the gearbox has been specifically designed for the Indian conditions and it gets a lot of technology to improve its operations and also ensure long-term reliability. What’s new?
The Altroz DCA comes with a wet-clutch transmission. This is a smart move considering that dry-clutch DCTs tend to heat up in Indian conditions which results in a failure. Tata claims that it gets innovative technology with 45 patents and that it is the world’s first DCT with a planetary gear system. Other features of the transmission include a Wet clutch with active cooling technology, machine learning, shift by wire technology, a self-healing mechanism, and auto park lock.
The dual-clutch automatic transmission comes mated to the 1.2-liter 3-cylinder naturally aspirated Revotron petrol engine. It produces 85 hp and 113 nm of torque. It comes mated to a 5-speed manual as standard. Other than the new Opera Blue color, the Altroz DCA will be available in Downtown Red, Arcade Grey, Avenue White, and Harbour Blue color. In terms of variants, the Altroz DCA will be available in XM+ XT, XZ, XZ(O), and XZ+. Furthermore, the Dark edition of the Altroz gets the option of DCA transmission as well. The rest of the features and specifications of the Altroz DCA remain the same as the other variants.
