Suzuki has been willing to release Jimny in our country. Ever since the 2020 Auto Expo, where the brand showcased this SUV, Maruti Suzuki has been working to bring the Jimny onto Indian streets. Some time back, Team Suzuki gave the green signal to this car, but now off-roader is facing some hurdles along the way. The company says that Jimny is facing some logistical and sales volume barriers.
Just a few days back Maruti Suzuki India Pvt. Ltd., or MSIL stated that the company was analysing feedbacks from the customers, to judge the excitement levels of potential buyers. The brand talked to PTI and said that the feedback from people is good, and they will be further analysed. Now the brand’s Senior Executive Director again spoke to PTI only to reveal that the volumes are less and there are some logistical issues as well.
Official Statements
In a statement given to PTI a few days back Shashank Srivastava, Senior Executive Director of Sales and Marketing at Maruti Suzuki India said, “We have collected some very good feedback from the customers. We are studying this feedback and we will definitely see if we can introduce the product here,”
More recently, Shashank Srivastava spoke to PTI and said, “The volumes are less but such vehicles lift the image of an OEM. At the same time, it also helps support many customer aspirations.”
Analysis
The problem of low sales volume for Jimny was made very clear by the MSIL executive. It comes as a shock to us that the sales would be less. Mahindra Thar stands in the same segment as the Jimny and has managed a good sales number in our country. Coming to the problems regarding transport.
Although Jimny is not sold in India, it is manufactured in our country and is then exported to European, African, and Australian countries among others. This means that we already have a dedicated line for the production of the Jimny, but the problem arises because MSIL wants to sell the five-door model while the Indian production line manufacturers three-door units. This could cause problems in terms of parts and components and could even raise the price of the car if the brand ends up importing these units.

All and all, the brand is weighing the odds for Jimny. MSIL seems to be stuck in a stalemate, with a slight inclination towards their willingness to bring the Jimny to Indian shores.
