Most already know what the upcoming Ford Figo hatchback and Aspire compact sedan look like. However, while undergoing testing in regular conditions, one of the test mules has been spotted transferring its power to the front wheels via an automatic gearbox. Snapped wearing zebra patterned camouflage at the front and rear, the gear lever inside the new Figo looked similar to the selector in the Ecosport and also has an ‘S’ mode in addition to the park, drive, reverse and neutral positions.
While it isn’t clear if the same will also find its way into the Aspire sedan, Ford might not or might just offer a double clutch transmission unit on the new Figo. If that happens, the Figo will become to cheapest hatchback to come equipped with that piece of technology. Wearing steel wheels, the car in the picture appeared to be a mid-level variant and featured equipment like steering mounted controls, an integrated entertainment system, electric mirrors, piano black inserts on the wheel, the dash and chrome inserts around the vents and the headlamp switch.
Based on the same platform as the outgoing car, the 2015 Ford Figo will use a 1-litre petrol engine based on the EcoBoost architecture, while the current 1.5 liter diesel engine will continue, tuned differently for more torque and efficiency. Which engine will the automatic gearbox be mated to is still unclear.
