SPIED: Fiat Punto Evo to come packed with some added sting, snapped hiding a 135 bhp T-Jet motor

A dynamically brilliant package already, the Fiat Punto Evo is all set to receive a major update. According to the source which has snapped these pictures, it has been caught hiding a 135 bhp T-Jet motor under the hood. Although the same 1.4-liter engine does duty in the Fiat Linea to produce 110 bhp, the 25 additional horses under the Punto’s bonnet could be attributed to Fiat’s Multi-Air, variable valve tech. Mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox and riding on 16″ alloys with a telephone dial pattern, this Fiat Punto Evo Abarth will also get disc brakes all round.

To be slated for a festive launch around Diwali this year, along with the Fiat Punto Evo Abarth, the Avventura could also get an Abarth moniker and share the same engine. With the 135 bhp T-Jet motor under the hood, the Punto Evo Abarth and Avventura Abarth are all set to become the most powerful and perhaps the fastest cars in their segment. While there isn’t much competition for the Avventura Abarth, what comes closest to the Fiat Punto Evo Abarth is the Volkswagen Polo 1.2 TSi. However, the latter is relatively down on power and comes mated to a 7-speed DSG, whereas, enthusiasts are more likely to shift stick, which is how even we like it, provided Fiat gets the gearing right. The Fiat Punto Evo has always been a fantastic driver’s car that needed some additional punch. With this fix, it will be right up there with the Polo GT twins to vie for the Best Driver’s Car under Rs 10 lakhs trophy.

  1. With this type of a “bombshell” from FIAT, VW will have to to bring in the Polo GTI versions or even tweak the engine performances resulting in a high power and torque numbers along with some cosmetic changes as a new facelift to bag the title of “the best hot-hatch in India.”
No doubt in the fact that FIAT cars are well-built and handles better than any of its competitors but what it really need to focus is in establishing proper showrooms, servicing centres and after-sale services across India (like those of Maruti Suzuki’s.)
