Looks like Ford is gearing up to compete against its rival American car maker Dodge Challenger as it tests the 2016 Mustang SVT. Uh! Wait. When did the 2015 model start to come out of factory?

The 2015 Ford Mustang was quite an eye candy when it was first displayed at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show. However, the car is still to hit the production line. But we believe Ford is in no mood to hold back its cards. The American car maker is already testing what appears to be the 2016 variant of its muscle car.

The latest test mules were spotted by automotive website Motor Authority which caught the Mustang in action at Nurburgring, Germany. Although it is not clear where will Ford place this Mustang but it is likely to be kept between previous-generation Mustang’s Boss 302 and Shelby GT500 models.

Ford is likely to tag the upcoming Mustang as GT350. However, Motor Authority reports that Ford may give it an older badge – like the Cobra or Mach1 as the company tries drop the Shelby title to highlight the fact that this model is being developed by Ford’s own SVT team.

Spy pictures reveal that this upcoming model has a wider track. It is also likely to get a V8 but it is not clear whether it will be turbocharged or a naturally aspirated unit. Other updates include vents in the front fenders, a front lip spoiler, quad-tip exhaust tips, a rear diffuser, and carbon ceramic brake discs.

Here is a video caught by Mustang6G showcasing the new model in action at Nurburgring. Do share your comments on this upcoming car.
