Rumour Mill: Upcoming Jawa Motorcycles To Use Mahindra Mojo Sourced 300cc Engine Platform

Mahindra & Mahindra, through its brand, Mahindra Two-wheelers, tried to tap the sub-500cc motorcycle market with the launch of its flagship motorcycle, the Mojo 300. However, the motorcycle could not clock the expected sales numbers. Mahindra recently launched a more affordable version of the Mojo 300, christened the Mojo UT300, with prices starting from INR 1.49 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

The two-wheeler brand is also working to co-create a lifestyle mobility company with exciting and relevant partners across products & services, and enter into previously untapped segments using iconic brands like BSA and JAWA. M&M, who recently took over BSA and JAWA Motorcycles through its subsidiary Classic Legends, is expected to launch the first motorcycles from the iconic brands in the Indian market by 2019. The launch of the products would happen under their respective brands and not under the Mahindra Two-wheelers.

In latest updates, sources close to the developments told motoring portal Autocar Professional that the upcoming JAWA motorcycles (and most likely BSA products too) will use Mahindra Two-wheeler’s existing 300cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder, fuel-injected engine platform. The same engine platform that also powers the two-wheeler manufacturer’s Mojo range.

Using the same engine platform will reduce the cost of development of the upcoming motorcycle range which should help the two-wheeler brand to introduce the new products at competitive prices.

We’d keep you posted with more updates as and when they’re available. Stay tuned.
