Even as potential customers of the Innova Crysta await the official launch date of the eagerly anticipated MPV, Toyota seems to be working on some other aspects of this upcoming model. The Innova Crysta is said to arrive in India with a diesel engine although the displacement for the same has not been revealed. Earlier reports suggested that a sub 2.0 litre diesel engine could also be on the cards citing the ban in the NCR region on high capacity diesel engines.

Now, if reports are to be believed, the company is said to be considering on a petrol variant for the Innova Crysta. An official from Toyota India reportedly said that an Innova Crysta powered by a petrol engine is planned to be launched specifically to counter the diesel vehicle ban. Another source revealed that the company might have to import the engine. The source also added that the vendors in India would be briefed about the chances of the petrol engine being manufactured in India at an upcoming supplier conference.
A petrol variant for the outgoing model of the Innova was available earlier but the company had to pull the plug as sales didn’t seem to materialize. The company doesn’t plan to launch the petrol variant anytime soon as fresh investments are currently on hold due to the uncertainty on the diesel ban.
Internationally, the Innova Crysta is powered by a 2.8 litre and a 2.4 litre diesel engine out of which only the latter is expected to come to India. This engine will send power to the wheels with the help of either a 5 speed manual gearbox or a six speed automatic transmission. Bookings for the Innova Crysta have already begun for an amount of Rs. 50,000. It is expected to arrive with a considerable price hike courtesy the premium features.
