Unveiled at the Los Angeles Motor Show, the Hyundai Elantra, also known as the Avante, was recently spotted testing in India at Salem,Tamil Nadu. The Korean automobile manufacturer had earlier unveiled the Tuscon at the 2016 Auto Expo held in Delhi. Reports now suggest that Hyundai is all set to launch the next generation Elantra in India.
Powering the new-gen Elantra would be 3 engine trims. A 1.6 litre GDi and a 2.0 litre MPi petrol engine would be on offer apart from the 1.6-litre VGT CRDi diesel engine. While the latter will come mated to a 7 speed dual clutch automatic transmission, the former two petrol mills will receive a six speed manual transmission as standard whereas a six speed automatic gearbox will come as an option.
Although the Elantra is based on the fluidic design philosophy, the sedan retains a familiar profile. Features on the new Elantra include LED door handle approach lights, ORVM integrated LED turn indicators, LED tail lights and 17 inch alloy wheels. Coming to the safety aspect, the new Elantra features ABS, EPS, a rear view camera, blind spot detection, lane keep assist and a tire pressure monitoring system.

The new generation Hyundai Elantra is expected to arrive at Indian shores by mid 2016 although there is no official statement from Hyundai India as yet. Once launched, the new Elantra would rival the Volkswagen Jetta, Toyota Corolla Altis, Skoda Octavia, and the Chevrolet Cruze. Expect the new Elantra to come with a price tag of approximately Rs. 15-20 lakhs.
