Royal Enfield acquires Motorcycle chassis specialist Harris Performance

With an aim to attain leadership in the global mid-size motorcycle segment, Royal Enfield acquired UK based Harris Performance Products Ltd, a motorcycle design and engineering firm. Apparently, Harris Performance was responsible for developing the chassis for the manufacturer’s Continental GT cafe racer.

The value of the deal has not been disclosed, however, with this deal, RE will acquire all of the British firm’s assets, employees, trade names, technical prowess and intellectual properties. All Harris Performance employees will be part of Royal Enfield’s upcoming UK Tech Centre. The forty year old chassis specialist designs, develops, manufactures and markets road and racing motorcycle chassis and components that are marketed in the UK and exported worldwide. On the racetrack, Harris machines have tasted success in all classes of road racing including Grand Prix, World Superbike, World Championship Endurance, Isle of Man and top Irish road races.

Explaining the vision behind the acquisition, Siddhartha Lal, CEO Royal Enfield explained that RE is working on its new generation of products and platforms and with assistance from the Harris Performance team dedicatedly working for the bike maker, it will enhance their engineering and product design capabilities. He further added that their proven expertise, deep insight and understanding of motorcycling and Royal Enfield will be invaluable for the Chennai based bike maker to achieve leadership in the global mid-sized motorcycling segment.
