Hollywood superstar Robert De Niro (right) will play the role of Enzo Ferrari (left) in the upcoming biopic about the legendary Italian motor racing driver and entrepreneur, but more crucially, the founder of the Ferrari automobile marque. Enzo breathed his last at the age of 90, on August 14, 1988, in Maranello, Italy, where Ferrari is currently headquartered at.

De Niro recently spoke to Italian newspaper Il Messagero about his forthcoming role. He says, “For me it is an honor and a joy to tell the life of an extraordinary man who revolutionized the automotive world and across historical periods and different social, from fascism to democracy, from war to economic well-being”. The New York-born actor, with movies like Raging Bull, The Deer Hunter, Taxi Driver, Goodfellas and Cape Fear under his belt, is now 71.

The film will be produced by former photographer Gianni Bozzacchi, owner of Triworld Cinema, in collaboration with De Niro’s Tribeca Enterprises concern. “The film will be titled Ferrari and will be based on an epic story,” said Bozzacchi, “It will have a high budget and will cover a wide span – from 1945 to the eighties in a twisted game of eras and episodes.”

What’s more, none other than Clint Eastwood has been approached to direct the film, and the producer said he showed interest in the project, but is waiting to read the script. We’re just waiting for it to hit theaters next year. Stay tuned!
