Seen here is a rendering of the next generation 2015 Smart ForFour, which will go on sale next year and will become a VW Up! and Fiat 500 adversary. Internally codenamed as the W453, the Smart ForFour is being readied with inputs from Renault. It may be noted that the 2015 Smart ForFour shares its platform with the next generation Renault Twingo.

The exterior styling of the 2015 Smart ForFour takes design inspiration from the Fourjoy concept . The Fourjoy was unveiled at Frankfurt Motor Show this year and its highlights include an aluminium Tridion cell chassis, DRLs, futuristic front seats and a honeycomb-like dashboard. The Smart ForFour, which is basically a bigger ForTwo, is 3.5 meters long and the sales of the next gen car are likely to commence around November next year.

Powering the Fourjoy concept is a 74 bhp electric motor that takes its juice from a lithium ion battery pack. The 2015 ForFour, however, is likely to get a 1.0 litre direct-injected petrol engine that has been developed by Daimler and Renault and is currently being used in naturally aspirated (70 bhp) and turbocharged (85 bhp) guises. For the ForFour, the motor is likely to get six speed manual and a seven speed dual clutch automatic transmissions, which would transmit the power to the rear wheels. Sometime down the line, the ForFour will also get an electric motor and it is being said that the bigger Smart, which would be produced in Slovenia, will benefit from battery technology taken from Tesla Motors.
