Volkswagen has been working on a compact SUV since a while now. Reports now suggest that the German automobile manufacturer is working on a compact SUV that will be based on the upcoming Polo. Reported to go on sale in 2017-18, this upcoming 5 door crossover was previewed by the T-Breeze Concept which was showcased at the Geneva Motor Show held earlier this year.
Currently, the company’s SUV/crossover range includes the Tiguan and the Touareg and this is likely to be the first of the multiple number of models that Volkswagen plans to launch in the future. Rendered images give us an idea of the next gen Polo based crossover’s profile. The compact crossover will be based on the MQB platform that underpins the Polo.
The renderings suggest that the front fascia of the crossover will be similar to that as seen on the T-Breeze concept. Reports suggest that the crossover will be shorter in length as compared to the Auqi Q2 which has a length measuring 4191 mm. The T-Breeze concept was mated to a 1.0 litre TSI turbocharged petrol engine. This engine is capable of producing a power output of 110 PS and a peak torque of 175 Nm.

It is likely that the company will also offer a bigger engine with displacement up to 1.5 litre. The company is also reportedly working on a 1.0 litre as well as a 1.5 litre engine that may debut with the crossover. Once launched in India, the crossover will take on the likes of the Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano, and Hyundai Creta.
