A few months after confirming that its new Duster-based pickup truck would carry the Niagara name, Renault has officially taken the wraps off the production model. Following an early teaser that built significant global anticipation, the new Renault Niagara has finally made its world debut. Developed primarily for Latin American markets, this rugged utility vehicle will be manufactured at Renault’s historic Santa Isabel plant in Argentina.
The Niagara is based on Renault’s RGMP platform, the same basic architecture used by the Duster and other international models. However, Renault has given the pickup its own design and a more rugged character.
Exterior and practicality
The Niagara gets a dual-cab body with a large black grille, LED lighting and a layered front bumper. The squared wheel arches and body cladding give it a tougher look. It also gets a front skid plate and 17-inch or 18-inch wheels, depending on the variant.
At the rear, the tailgate carries Niagara lettering, while the LED tail lights are connected visually by a black strip.

The pickup will also get a rigid tonneau cover as standard. Renault has designed the cargo area for both daily use and leisure activities.
Cabin and technology
Inside, the cabin mirrors the premium layout of the Renault Boreal SUV. The driver-focused digital cockpit features a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster paired with a 10.1-inch central touchscreen running the OpenR Link multimedia system. With Google built-in, the interface integrates Google Gemini for intelligent, conversational voice commands.
Beyond the high-speed USB Type-C ports, cabin comfort is elevated by an adjustable rear backrest featuring a 25-degree recline and up to 200 mm of knee room. Practicality is further optimized by a hidden 36-litre storage compartment tucked neatly behind the rear seats. Additionally, the Renault Niagara comes equipped with a comprehensive suite of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), including:
- Adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go
- Lane keep assist
- Blind spot warning
- Collision warning with automatic braking
- 360-degree camera
- Automatic parking
- Reverse emergency braking
- Speed limit sign recognition
Engine and 4×4
Renault will offer the Niagara with a 1.3-litre turbo petrol engine. It produces 156hp on petrol and 160hp when running on ethanol, with 270Nm of torque.
Transmission choices will include a six-speed manual and a six-speed dual-clutch automatic.
Front-wheel drive will be offered on the regular versions. The top-spec Outsider variant will get four-wheel drive, giving the pickup better ability on rough surfaces.
Hybrid powertrain planned
Renault has also confirmed that hybrid powertrains will be added to its Latin American range from next year. The company has not confirmed which model will get the system first, but the Niagara is a strong possibility.
This would give Renault another option in a market where models such as the Fiat Toro and Ford Maverick already offer electrified powertrain choices.
What about India?
The pickup market in India is still relatively small compared with SUVs, but the segment has seen more interest recently. The country has seen launches and updates such as the Mahindra Scorpio-Lifestyler and the new-generation Toyota Hilux.
Renault has not officially confirmed the Niagara for India. For now, the pickup remains a Latin American product, with Brazil, Argentina and Colombia being its key markets.
