Renault India Records 75.5% Growth In July 2020

The automotive industry in India showed some signs of recovery as most of the manufacturers posted positive growth for the month of July 2020. The automotive industry had been reeling with a bad phase already when the Covid-19 pandemic hit worldwide.

The numbers posted by automakers for the month of July showed encouraging signs of recovery as production resumed normalcy to a great extent across the nation. Among these, Renault was the one who showed true progress as the French automaker registered promising figures.

Renault India has announced that it has sold 6,442 units of cars in July 2020, up 75.5% percent from the same month last year, when it recorded 3,660 units. This is the highest sales growth shown by a manufacturer last month. It should be kept in mind though that the volume in question is rather small. With this, Renault also marked an uptick in market share at 3.2 percent.

The company had already said that the Triber has received strong demand in the country and the launch of the Triber AMT has added to the encouraging response. The new variants of the Kwid too will help in boosting the sales numbers. In fact, it was in July that the company announced that the Kwid had surpassed the 3.5 lakh sales milestone which shows how popular it is.

Presently, Renault sells three models in the Indian market, which are the Kwid, Triber and Duster. While the Duster is past its days of glory, Triber and Kwid are punching in numbers. The Triber and Kwid are helping the French automaker to stay afloat in the Indian market, despite the COVID-19 crisis. In June 2020, the automaker posted a 14 percent YoY decline, when Renault managed to sell 2,441 units of the Kwid and 2,064 units of the Triber. In July 2020, Triber was the best selling Renault car with sales of 3,076 units while Kwid was 2nd best with 3,007 units sold.

As far as new launches are concerned,  Renault India will soon launch the 1.3-litre turbo petrol version of the Renault Duster this month and that too will be an encouraging sign for the country in India. The model was showcased at the AutoExpo earlier this year. Also, the French automaker is expected to launch the HBC sub-4 metre compact SUV by the end of this year. The HBC is rumoured to be named ‘Kiger’.
