Project 1408 : Is Ducati developing a lightweight, carbon fibre rich 1299 Superleggera?

Currently reserved for limited audience, Ducati’s Project 1408’s official website was briefly accessible before it was encrypted again. While the Italian marque has remained tight-lipped about the details, reports suggest that Project 1408 will be a Ducati 1299 Superleggera. Superleggera, which literally translates to Super Light, implies that the motorcycle will feature a carbon-fibre frame, air-box, swingarm and wheels will help the motorcycle shed massive weight. The weight reduction will help the motorcycle deliver a better power-to-weight ratio against the stock vehicle and that number is expected to improve further.

Apart from the weight cut, the motorcycle is also expected to gain some serious power too, reportedly around the 220 hp mark, which will make it the most powerful series production Ducati yet. The motorcycle is expected to come equipped with premium hardware including Akrapovic mufflers. The motorcycle will also feature new cylinder heads, tougher internals, and better ECU.
