Piaggio to Launch Moto Guzzi in India

Looks like Piaggio is getting really serious about the Indian two-wheeler market. The Indian wing of the Italian manufacturer hasn’t tasted as much success with Vespa as they have with their 3 wheelers.

While Piaggio India has already been ‘silently’ selling Aprilia superbikes in the niche market, the Italian giant now plans to set a wider footprint on the Indian motorcycle scene.

Piaggio is planning to bring its premium cruiser brand “Moto Guzzi” to India and hopes to battle it out against flagship Royal Enfield products and against Harley Davidson in the cruiser market. Piaggio also plans to establish 4 of its 8 brands (Aprilia, Derbi, Gilera, Laverda, Ligier, Moto Guzzi, Vespa and Piaggio) in the Indian market.

Ravi Chopra, Chairman and Managing Director, of Piaggio Vehicles India Limited, said, “We are evaluating the right time for the launch of products following the Vespa.”

Will the transverse pod beauties succeed in weaving their magic in India? We’re as eager to see.
