Anand Mahindra has always been at the forefront in supporting the people of his nation. He recently made the headlines when he announced that he will be gifting an XUV700 to gold medalist Neeraj Chopra. Not only Mahindra, but other manufacturers as well have gifted cars to the winners. Similarly now, Mahindra is making headlines again, this time for presenting Paralympian Avani Lekhara with a personalized Mahindra XUV700 in recognition of her gold medal performance in the Women’s 10m Air Rifle Standing SH1 Final. She not only won the gold medal, but she also set a Paralympic record with a score of 249.6.
Not just your regular XUV700
The Mahindra XUV700 that Avani Lekhara will be gifted is different from any other XUV700 in the market. It will be developed specifically for differently-abled people. Recently, Paralympian Deepa Malik had asked Mahindra to develop or customise cars that can be used by differently-abled athletes too.
Anand Mahindra, who is quite active on social media responded to that in his recent tweet by saying, “A week ago @DeepaAthlete suggested that we develop SUVs for those with disabilities. Like the one she uses in Tokyo. I requested my colleague Velu, who heads Development to rise to that challenge. Well, Velu, I’d like to dedicate & gift the first one you make to #AvaniLekhara.”
This does not state that the gift will be an XUV700, but it is most likely to be because it is the latest offering in their stable of capable SUVs.
About the Mahindra XUV700
Mahindra recently launched their most advanced product, the XUV700. The XUV700 is a host to segment-first features and powerful engines. This combination shouts SUV of the year. The XUV700 gets an option of petrol and diesel engines. The petrol engine is a 2 litre 4-cylinder turbocharged mStallion engine that produces 200hp and 380nm of torque. This makes it the most powerful in the segment. The diesel engine is a 2.2 litre 4-cylinder mHawk engine that comes in two states of tune. One is a 155hp and 360nm of torque unit for the lower variant. The higher variants get 185hp and 420nm of torque. Automatic variants get 450nm of torque. The XUV700 will also get an option of AWD. Both the engines get a manual and an automatic gearbox.
