The launch of the Pajero Sport Automatic in the Indian market has been confirmed by Mitsubishi, says Autocar India in a report. The Pajero Sport Automatic will be brought to Indian shores in the month of August, and deliveries should begin from the month of September.
Japanese manufacturer Mitsubishi had hinted at the start of this year that the Pajero Sport Automatic could make its way to the Indian market by the end of this year. The Pajero Sport Automatic is already available in overseas markets. Under the hood, it carries the same 2.5 litre, four-cylinder diesel powerplant that is equipped on the manual version of the Pajero Sport. In the manual variant, the four-cylinder engine churns out a peak power of 178 PS @ 4,000 rpm and a humongous peak torque of 400 Nm at 2,000 – 2,500 rpm.
In addition to the automatic transmission, the Pajero Sport Automatic could get a few cosmetic embellishments. The probable ones are the inclusion of a new design theme on the engine grille and the front bumpers. Interiors could get a few more equipments, and a more plush feel due to the use of better upholstery. The Pajero Sport does include a central touch screen system with navigation facilities, hence we do expect this one on the Pajero Sport Automatic too.
The source states that the Pajero Sport Automatic will come with a premium of about 1-1.5 lakhs INR over the manual Pajero Sport. As stated by Mitsubishi earlier, the automatic variant units will be assembled via CKD at HM’s plant in Tiruvallur, near Chennai. Mitsubishi’s sales in India have hit a rock bottom, and this upcoming Pajero Sport Automatic will have to weather stiff challenges from rivals like Toyota Fortuner and Hyundai Santa Fe to turn the tide in Mitsubishi’s favour.
