A quick final recap before we get to one of the much awaited and highly anticipated event news of the year -Tata Motors got a new player on board in the compact hatchback segment last year. After the official unveiling of the Tata Tiago (then Tata Zica) the company organized a media drive and soon media houses started flipping out drive impressions and reviews on their portals. Following this event, Tata also came up with wacky promotional ideas and went ahead to make chocolates and perfume under the Zica brand.

While the automaker was all set and ready to get the new player in the market, hell broke loose! An unfortunate coincidence led Tata Motors to change the name of their zippy car and the makers did so. A name hunt contest was conducted to fetch the Zica a new name. And there we are finally the Zica became the Tata Tiago. A sweet coincidence with the new name is that it resembles with the name of Lionel Messi’s (Tata Motors’ brand ambassador) son. So finally, after a series of updates, news and a long, very long wait the Tiago will be finally launched in India on the 6th of April 2016 – save the date.
The Tata Tiago will roll out with two engine configurations – 1.2 litre Revotron petrol engine and an all new 1.0 litre Revotorq diesel engine. The former produces 83 Bhp of peak power and a max torque of 114 Nm and the latter delivers a max power of 69 Bhp and 120 Nm of torque. Both these power-plants will come strapped to a 5-speed manual transmission for now and reportedly an AMT kit will arrive later during its lifecycle. The Tiago has been up for bookings already.
