Rumour Mill: Honda superbikes to come equipped with Dual Clutch Transmission

If the recent reports from motoring portal Visordown are to be believed, Honda may soon introduce its Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) technology to its performance motorcycles such as the litre-class Fireblade or the middle-weight CBR600RR. An company insider told the motoring website that Honda is working to make DCT suitable for its sportbikes. Currently, the NC750X, Africa Twin and the VFR1200F benefit from the DCT gearbox.

A DCT gearbox uses two clutches and thus is wider and heavier than the conventional gearbox adding nearly 10 kilograms to the weight of the motorcycle. Honda DCT engineer Kosaku Takahashi, however, says that the Japanese two-wheeler maker is currently working to overcome this problem.

Not much has been revealed about the development of a sportbike ready DCT yet but Takahashi is confident that the DCT equipped motorcycles would be faster because of the seamless gearshifts.

While we almost always welcome new technologies, there is something that cannot replace a stick for the car guys and the clutch and gear-lever are equivalent to the same for a motorcycle guy.
