Official: 2017 Hyundai Elantra launch scheduled for 24th August in Mumbai

Hyundai unveiled the sixth generation of the Elantra in September last year at the company’s Global R&D Center in Namyang, South Korea. The model made its official debut at the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show and now, the model is all set for its launch in India.

After being spied during its public road tests on a few occasions, the Indian arm of the Korean manufacture will launch the new Elantra on 24th August at an event in Mumbai. Once launched, the new Elantra will rival the Volkswagen Jetta, Skoda Octavia and the Toyota Corolla Altis.

Internationally, the Elantra is propelled by two diesel engines and one petrol engine. The diesel motors include a 1.6 VGT engine and a 1.6 GDi engine while the petrol unit is a 2.0 MPi Atkinson engine. Transmission duties are handled by a six speed manual transmission as standard while a six speed automatic transmission is also available as an option. A seven speed DCT gearbox will be offered only with the 1.6 VGT motor. It remains unknown which engines will make it to the Indian shores.

The upcoming Elantra comes equipped with features such as HID bending lights with a projector setup, vertically positioned DRLs, LED door handle lights, mirror integrated LED turn indicators, LED tail lamps and 17 inch alloy wheels. For the interiors, the model receives an all black colour theme, a three spoke steering wheel, dual automatic temperature controls, an infotainment system with a a large touch screen, integrated memory settings for the driver’s seat and a 4.2 inch TFT LCD display for the instrument cluster.

Safety features on the 2017 Hyundai Elantra include ABS, EPS seven airbags, blind spot detection, lane change assist, lane keep assist, a rear view camera and a tyre pressure monitoring system. The upcoming Elantra will command a premium of a few lakhs as compared to its predecessor.
