That the next generation Hyundai i10 is headed our way is something that has long since been known. It may be noted that the current generation Hyundai i10 can be safely credited with upping the ante in the lower B segment. The car bagged many car of the year awards and remained a hot seller until some worthy competition arrived from rival manufacturers. The current gen i10 is still selling in decent numbers and can safely be presumed to stay in reasonable demand till the next gen i10 bows in.
Sales of the Hyundai i10 took the biggest hit with the arrival of Ritz D and Honda Brio. The Brio soon became a hot favourite and also spawned an entry level sedan variant recently. Christened as the Honda Brio Amaze, the Brio-based sedan will become the first Honda India car to sport a diesel motor and will battle it out against the Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire and other budget end sedans.
The entry level sedan segment is where Hyundai India is pretty much struggling. Long forgotten Accent sedan notwithstanding, Hyundai Motors India is pretty much conspicuous by its absence in the lower C segment.
Now, it has emerged that Hyundai has plans to come up with a compact sedan based on the next generation 2014 Hyundai i10 hatchback. This piece of info comes straight from Hyundai Turkey Chairman, Ümit Karaarsalan and the upcoming Hyundai i10 Compact Sedan will be positioned between the i10 and the i20.
This also means that that there are very little chances of Hyundai coming up with a compact sedan based on the i20. The 2014 Hyundai i10 Compact Sedan will replace the Accent and will be priced close to the i20 base variants.
Very much like the Honda Brio Amaze, the Hyundai i10 sedan too will get a diesel powerplant option and is being expected to be priced considerably lower than the Amaze.
