The much awaited Nissan Terrano compact crossover was recently caught testing in Chennai. The Terrano is essentially Nissan’s iteration of the highly popular Renault Duster and might be launched during this year’s festive season.
The Terrano will be produced at Nissan’s Oragadam facility and will come with a styling that would not be exactly similar to that of the Duster. Speaking about the styling of the Nissan Terrano, President and CEO of Nissan Motor India Pvt. Ltd, Kenichiro Yomura, recently said, “You can see from the sketch that Terrano has a bold and distinctive design that I am confident will appeal to our growing customer base in India, as will its driving performance and range of other features that will be revealed at a later date.”
It is the second time that Nissan is using the Terrano moniker. Nissan earlier sold an SUV named Terrano in several European markets. This vehicle was also sold as the Ford Maverick in some markets.
The upcoming Duster-based Nissan Terrano will be a slightly more ‘premium’ than the car it is based on and will hence, come with a higher price tag. Our guess is that the Terrano could be priced around INR 50,000 to 75,000 higher than the Renault Duster.
The Terrano will sport a new front fascia that will include a new bumper, revised headlights and a new front grille. T
It may ne noted that the styling of the Terrano’s front end remains true to the official sketch that you see here.
Also visible on close observation of the spy pics we have seen so far is a straight crease in the lower half of Terrano’s body (check out the lead image). It is hence evident that the carmaker is making changes to the sheet metal. It may be noted that the Duster has an inverted-U like crease.
Another change that we have come to know of is the rectangular shape of the air con vents. The Duster has circular vents for the aircon. The dashboard also gets a differently shaped instrument console.
The car also sports different alloy wheels, which would be more stylish than those on Duster. The Terrano will also get a new tailgate, rear bumper and new tail lamps.
