A thousand speculations and a million spy pics later, we finally have official details and images of the much publicized Porsche 918 Spyder. The details of the new car were recently unveiled, ahead of the car’s public debut at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show that will be held in September.

The Porsche 918 Spyder has a carbon fiber monocoque chassis that bestows the car with considerable weight savings. In Sport mode, the PAA helps the car with having a different setting for the rear spoiler, thus enabling it to reach a higher top speed.

In Race and Sport modes, the adjustable air inlets that are positioned under the headlights are opened for maximum cooling air intake. In E-Power and Hybrid modes, these inlets are closed. The car has five driving modes- E-Power, Hybrid, Sport Hybrid, Race Hybrid and the Hot Lap.

Powering the Porsche 918 Spyder is a 4.6 liter, eight-cylinder engine that has a max power of 608 HP. The engine is based on that of the RS Spyder’s motor and can be revved up to 9,150 rpm! The Porsche 918 Spyder has sports an all-wheel drive arrangement and the electric motor, which is fitted on the front axle, boosts the power output by 95 bhp. The 918 Spyder has a lithium-ion battery and a plug-in charging system. The engine is mated to a seven-speed PDK transmission.

The 918 Spyder will head to production in September.
