New Mercedes-Benz GLA Debuts – Here’s everything you must know!

The Mercedes-Benz GLA has entered a new chapter. This time, the company has not just updated the SUV but changed the way it will be sold around the world. For the first time, buyers can choose the GLA as a fully electric SUV, and the old EQA name will no longer continue as a separate model. The new GLA is also bigger, gets a fresh cabin, more technology and faster charging. A new petrol version with mild hybrid support has also been confirmed for global markets.

Third Generation Mercedes-Benz GLA Powertrain

Mercedes-Benz has introduced three electric versions of the new GLA. Buyers can choose between two battery packs depending on the variant.

The GLA 250 and GLA 250+ use a single motor with rear wheel drive. The GLA 350 gets two electric motors and all wheel drive. Mercedes says the top version can sprint from 0 to 100 kmph in 5.4 seconds.

The SUV uses an 800 volt electrical system. It supports up to 320 kW DC fast charging, which can add around 270 km of driving range in just 10 minutes. AC charging of up to 22 kW is also supported.

Mercedes has also confirmed a new 71 kWh battery option for 2027.

Petrol Version Confirmed

The petrol GLA will arrive later with a new 1.5 litre four cylinder turbo petrol engine.

Compared to the older model, it is 153 mm longer and has a 61 mm longer wheelbase. The electric version also gets a useful front storage space.

Fresh Look Outside

The new GLA gets a stronger road presence with a new front design. The electric model features a closed illuminated grille with LED lighting, while the petrol version gets a star pattern grille. New LED headlamps, connected tail lamps and alloy wheels up to 20 inches give the SUV a premium appearance.

The dashboard has been redesigned with a clean layout and more digital screens.

Mercedes Benz currently sells the second generation GLA in India, with prices starting at Rs 51.80 lakh, ex showroom. The company has not confirmed the third generation GLA for India yet.
