We have already reported in great detail about the new Grand i10 which was unveiled earlier this month. The official word is now out that the new Hyundai Grand i10 , which is in fact based on the 2014 Hyundai i10, will be launched in our car market on September 3. With the launch of the new car, Hyundai India will have as many as five hatchbacks in its product portfolio.
The exterior styling of the Grand i10 comes from the carmaker’s Fluidic design language and looks as contemporary as any other modern day Hyundai. There is no really denying that the car’s exteriors borrow not even a single design cue from the last gen i10 but we feel that it would be safe to term the design as evolutionary. We also feel that the rear of the new car looks distinctively European and probably the best we have seen on any Hyundai hatchback so far. Hyundai India hasn’t yet published the images of their new car’s interiors but we guess the interiors would be as well groomed as the exteriors.
The Grand i10 will come to us with both petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol variant will be powered by the same 1.2-liter Kappa2 engine that powers the i10 and the i20. The diesel variant will get a newly developed 1.1-liter three cylinder diesel engine that has been derived from Hyundai’s 1.4-liter CRDi motor. Hyundai has refrained from publishing the spec sheets of the new car but we reckon that the diesel engine would have at least 70 PS of max power.
The new Hyundai Grand i10 should find itself positioned between the i10 and i20 and could be seen rivalling the Maruti Ritz, the Ford Figo and the Nissan Micra in India.
