Video: New 2018 BMW X4 / X4 M Revealed: Official Images, Details, Features and Specs

BMW has released all the details along with the images for the second generation X4 and X4 M. The new 2018 BMW X4 and X4 M have their focus turned towards even more sportiness and a more expressive design. The fully redesigned X4 for 2018 is now 81 mm longer and 37 mm wider than the outgoing model. However, the new model still manages to be 50 kg lighter with use of lighter and stronger materials in its construction.

The vanilla X4 will be offered with a choice of two petrol and two diesel units. The petrol engines for the X4 will come with the following specifications.

Xdrive 20i – 2.0 litre, 4cyl – eight-speed Steptronic transmission. Power 184 hp at 6,500 rpm, torque 290 Nm at 1,350 – 4,250 rpm. Acceleration 0 – 100 km/h in 8.3 seconds, top speed: 215 km/h

Xdrive 30i 2.0 litre Four-cyl, eight-speed Steptronic transmission. Power 252 hp at 6,500 rpm, torque 350 Nm at 1,450 – 4,800 rpm. Acceleration 0 – 100 km/h in 6.3 seconds, top speed: 240 km/h

The diesel option specs are provided below

BMW X4 xDrive20d: 2.0 litre, four-cyl, eight-speed Steptronic transmission. Power 190 hp at 4,000 rpm, torque 400 Nm at 1,750 – 2,500 rpm. Acceleration 0 – 100 km/h in 8.0 seconds, top speed: 213 km/h

BMW X4 xDrive25d: 2.0 litre, four-cyl diesel engine, eight-speed Steptronic transmission. Power 231 hp at 4,400 rpm, torque 500 Nm at 2,000 rpm. Acceleration 0 – 100 km/h in 6.8 seconds, top speed 230 km/h

BMW X4 xDrive30d : 3.0 litre in-line diesel, eight-speed Steptronic transmission. Power 265 hp at 4,000 rpm,
torque 620 Nm at 2,000 – 2,500 rpm. Acceleration 0 – 100 km/h in 5.8 seconds, top speed: 240 km/h

Finally, there are M variants available as well, powered by petrol as well as diesel. The M twins are called the X4 M40i and the BMW X4 M40d. The specs for the M variants are provided below

BMW X4 M40i (est. availability from August 2018 production):
3.0 litre, Six-cylinder in-line petrol, eight-speed Steptronic transmission. Power 360 hp at 5,500 – 6,500 rpm, torque 500 Nm at 1,520 – 4,800 rpm. Acceleration 0 – 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds, top speed 250 km/h.

BMW X4 M40d: 3.0 litre, six-cylinder in-line diesel, eight-speed Steptronic transmission. Power 326 hp at 4,400 rpm, torque 680 Nm at 1,750 – 2,750 rpm. Acceleration 0 – 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds, top speed: 250 km/h

It’s interesting to note that all the variants – petrol, diesel or M are equipped with the an eight-speed Steptronic transmission. Also, the drive system here is the BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel-drive. In terms of features and tech, the X4 will get a new iDrive display with a 10.25-inch touchscreen, voice control system or Driving Assistant Plus. The BMW ConnectedDrive will offer Real-Time Traffic Information, On-Street Parking Information and the Concierge Services.

The price for the new X4 in the US will starting from $50,450 or Rs 32.5 Lakh, while the top of the line M40i will retail for $60,450 or a little less than Rs. Sales will commence from July 2018. Expect the car to arrive in India by late 2018 or early 2019.
