The new upcoming 2016 Skoda Superb has been spied yet again, this time in Aurangabad. Unlike the higher spec variant with 10 spoke wheels we spied exclusively some time back, this one is a lower spec variant with five spoke wheels.

In its fourth generation now, the Superb is based on VW Group’s MQB platform and shares a lot with the VW Passat, which is also expected to be launched soon in the country. At 4861 mm long, 1468 mm tall and 1864 mm wide, the new Superb packs in more space than the current gen model as it is 28 mm longer and 47 mm wider, with an 80 mm longer wheelbase.

Unlike the current gen Superb, which looks somewhat narrow owing to its overwhelming length, the new generation Superb look more well-proportioned, athletic and sporty. Drawing cues from the Vision C concept, the new Superb is sharper and more angular than any Superb model in the past. In line with the edgy styling of the new Octavia, already on sale in India, the new Superb also gets sharply styled headlamps, the new Skoda grille, strongly pronounced waistline, sharp LED tail lamps, and a boot lip spoiler.

For India, the car is expected to get 1.8-litre petrol and 2.0-litre TDI engines. Both engines are expected to be mated with the DSG double clutch transmission. The current gen car is also sold in the manual transmission Ambition trim, and a possibility of such a variant as a low-cost option cannot be entirely negated.

On the inside, the new Octavia will be one of the most well-equipped cars up to and above its segment. While feature rich, the interiors will be subtle and classy, with use of leather and other high quality materials. The car will get three zone climate control, a panoramic electric roof, heated seats, a high-end audio system, automatic lights and wipers, LED DRLs, Bi-Xenon headlamps, an 8-inch touch screen Mirrorlink system and an army of airbags along with segment topping active electronic aids.

The car will be assembled at Skoda’s plant in Aurangabad and will be launched before the year-end in all probability.

Expected price range Rs 24 – 30 lakh ex-showroom
