New 2016 Ford GT Will Be Built In Canada

Ford has confirmed that production of the GT Concept, which made its debut at the NAIAS in Detroit last month, will officially kickstart in the near future. According to Ford’s VP and chief technical officer, Raj Nair, “the GT will be made in a limited series, even more excusive than the 2005 GT.” Exact performance details aren’t known just yet, but we already know that the model is powered by a mid-mounted 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 EcoBoost which dishes out more than 600 hp expected to be connected to a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. The V6 also features an all-new, port/direct dual fuel-injection setup to improve engine response, plus a low-friction roller-finger-follower valve-train.

Mr Nair also reiterated that the “3.5 V6 has more power than the 6.2 V8, and better fuel economy.” Also, the FOrd GT won’t be built in its home country USA. Ford’s new supercar (and hopeful future Le Mans competitor) will be manufactured by Multimatic, Inc., based in Markham, Ontario, Canada. Ford made the official announcement at the Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto a couple of days ago.

The GT is constructed making extensive use of lightweight materials, including carbon fiber and aluminium. Anchored by a carbon fiber passenger cell, the GT features aluminium front and rear sub-frames encapsulated in structural carbon fiber body panels. According to Ford’s claim, the GT will exhibit one of the best power-to-weight ratios on any production car. The GT will also benefit from advanced active aerodynamics, such as a deployable rear spoiler, and a host of material and technology innovations to help better serve the driver, such as SYNC® 3 – the latest version of Ford’s advanced connectivity system.
