It has by now become a well known fact that the Japanese auto maker giant Toyota plans to launch the new gen 2014 Toyota Corolla in India early next year. Now, for the first time ever, the latest Corollas has been spotted testing on Indian tarmac.

It may be noted that the Corolla has been among the most successful brands to have ever come from Toyota. However, the last gen car, which is still on sale in India, has been outsold by fresher rivals in almost every country. This makes the India launch of the upcoming new gen Corolla even more important for Toyota.

The new 2014 Corolla sports a stylish set of LED headlamps, which are far more stylish than those we see in many cars on sale today. The car also gets a new set of 17-inch alloy wheels that sport twin-spoke design. It may be noted that the India spec Corolla comes equipped with “not-so-stylish” 15-inch alloy wheels.

On the inside, the car will come with completely restyled panels and a new touch screen audio system which could very well provide social networking and news reports options!

Mechanically, the 2014 Corolla doesn’t see any major changes, expect for the addition of a new CVT gearbox for the 1.8 liter petrol engine. It remains to be seen if the new Corolla would be potent enough to get the better of the Elantra and the Jetta in Indian car market.

  1. The Corolla needs more powerful diesel engines than the 1.4 d4d, if it is to compete with Jetta, Elantra and the Octavia in India.
