The wait is about to be over! The new 2013 Skoda Octavia, which has been a regular to our news section, will be unveiled in India tomorrow and is expected to go on sale in September.
Several test mules of the 2013 Octy have been spotted testing in India and it surely means that Skoda India wishes to get it very right with fine tuning the car for Indian road conditions. The new Octavia is already on sale in several European countries and has been winning rave reviews from car buyers and auto hacks from across the continent.
Skoda has high hopes from the new Octavia and going by what our friends at some international publications have told us, we feel that the latest Octy could be among the best cars to have ever come from the VW Group owned Czech automaker.
The new 2013 Octavia is underpinned by the much publicized MQB platform. It may be noted that the same platform underpins many more new-age Volkswagen group cars.
The car would also get several gizmos from the bigger Superb and the insides will boast of higher quality of plastics.
The engine options for the new 2013 Octavia are likely to be carried over from the Laura and this means that the new Octavia would get a 1.8 TSI turbocharged petrol and a 2.0 TDI turbocharged diesel engine. Skoda India might also be contemplating launching a new entry level 1.6 Liter TDI turbo diesel engine variant to keep the costs under check.
It is almost for sure that the new Octy will be pricier than the Laura but on the same time, the car might come across as a much more value for money proposition due to its larger size, newer technology and a bigger equipment list.
We are eagerly waiting to drive the new Octavia on our roads. We are also waiting to see the effect that the new car will have on sales of other entry level D segment cars.
