The car also boasts of a coasting function that sees to it that the DSG transmission is decoupled from the motor as soon as driver steps off the gas. This helps in reducing the mechanical drag.

All these technologies and modifications help the new Volkswagen Passat Bluemotion to have a fuel economy of 42 mpg US (50.4 mpg UK / 5.6 L/100km) on highways. This, even when the motor has a healthy power output of 150 bhp (112 kW) and peak torque of 184 lb-ft (249 Nm).

Other than all the fuel efficiency maximizing technologies, the new Passat Bluemotion concept boasts of a set of visual updates that include a revised front grille, some more chrome trim and a rear spoiler. The new Volkswagen Passat Bluemotion concept has a two-tone interior that sports leather seats, carbon fiber trim and gloss black accents at several places.
