MG Comet EV launched at Rs. 7.98 Lakhs

MG has officially launched its new electric vehicle, the Comet EV, in India. The company is aiming to appeal to buyers seeking a compact urban runabout with its latest offering. Priced at Rs. 7.98 Lakhs, the Comet EV sits below the ZS EV in the portfolio of the carmaker.

Design of the MG Comet

MG Comet EV sports a chic and contemporary exterior design. Its angular silhouette and LED reverse lights stretching across the width add to its appeal. The vehicle’s funky appearance is further enhanced by black ORVMs and cladding, split LED headlamps, funky 12-inch wheels, and a dual-tone paint job. The rear of the car mirrors the front, with split taillights and a light bar running across the width of the vehicle. Moreover, the MG lettering on the front conceals a charging port for convenient access.

Safety features in MG Comet

The Comet EV is a safe and sturdy electric car that prioritizes safety in both its exterior and interior. It features a Li-ion battery pack with Prismatic Cells that underwent rigorous safety tests for longer cycle life. The vehicle has an IP67 rating, making it highly resistant to water and dust. Its robust High Strength Vehicle Body has 17 hot stamping panels, making it strong and secure. The Smart EV has plenty of advanced safety features such as Dual Front Airbags, ABS + EBD, Front & Rear 3 pt. Seat Belts, Rear Parking Camera & Sensor, TPMS (Indirect), and ISOFIX Child Seat.

Interior and Features

This car follows the BICO concept offering spacious interiors in a compact dimension. MG Comet features a premium space grey airy interior. The comfort creature features include rotary knobs for AC control, electronic parking brake, voice command, etc. The dash sports a twin-screen setup each of size 10.25 inches.

The digital cluster is brimmed with a plethora of vehicular information. The infotainment system supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto etc. like connectivity features.  The twin-spoke steering wheel features pod-inspired mounted controls and the car is operated via the rotary gear knob.

About the Electric powertrain

The new MG Comet features a 17.3kWh IP67-rated battery pack with a claimed range of 230kms. Moreover, the brand will provide a 3.3kW battery charger that takes 7 hours to fully charge the vehicle. The new Comet gets a single electric motor making 42hp of power and 110nm of torque output. The power is channeled to the rear wheels via an Automatic Transmission.

Pricing and other details

MG has retailed its latest product, the Comet at Rs. 7.98 Lakh onwards Ex-showroom. As per MG, the running cost of Comet is Rs. 519 per 1000 km. The brand will commence the test drives on 27 April and bookings and deliveries from May 2023 onwards. The MG Comet EV has locked its horns with Tata Tiago EV and Citroen eC3 in India.
