Mercedes S-Class Cabrio Teased Prior to Frankfurt Debut

Mercedes has released a new teaser image of the S-Class Cabrio, ahead of its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Designed to be the “most comfortable cabriolet in the world,” the S-Class Cabrio is based on the S-Class Coupe and features a luxurious interior with premium leather upholstery, wood trim and metallic accents.  The model will also feature heated seats, heated arm rests and an automatic “intelligent” climate control system.  Mercedes also said we can expect Airscarf front seats and an improved Aircap automatic wind protection system.

Pictured alongside the last open-top S Class, sold from 1961 to 1971, the latest S-Class Cabrio will compete with the likes of the Bentley Continental GT Convertible, and come with the largest folding fabric roof ever used in a series production car. It will also be “the most comfortable cabriolet in the world.”

“After 44 years we can again offer friends of our company an open variant of the S-Class. The new S-Class Cabriolet symbolises our passion for individual and timelessly exclusive mobility, which we share with our customers”, remarks Ola Källenius, Board Member of Daimler AG, Mercedes-Benz Cars Sales.

To accommodate the fully automatic multi-layer retractable roof, the Cabrio features a far longer boot deck when compared to the S-Class Coupe and much smaller rear side windows. The model also features a stronger windscreen frame, new rear wing panels and a restyled boot lid. A large tonneau cover sits behind the rear seats, preserving the car’s exterior line. The Cabrio will also carry forward the coupe’s choice of engines and will be available in all- and rear-wheel drive configurations. After its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the S-Class Cabriolet will go on sale in the US in 2016.
