Mercedes-Benz launched the new S 400 in India today, an at event in Hyderabad. The luxury sedan, which will be locally produced in Chakan, Pune, is priced at INR 1.31 Crores (ex-showroom Hyderabad). The S 400, a new (and 9th) variant of the S-Class, is positioned between the S 350 CDI and the S 500 variants. Power for the S 400 comes from a 3-litre, V6 petrol engine that is rated at 333 hp, while peak torque stands at 480 Nm. The engine is mated to a 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic transmission, which sends power to the rear wheels.

Inside, the S 400 features leather upholstery on the center console, seats and door panels. Other features include a 1520 watt Burmester 3D Surround System with 24 speakers, ambient lighting with 7 different colours/5 dimming levels, COMMAND online with NGT5, panoramic sunroof and a Hot Stone Massage function for the rear seat occupants. As for safety, the S 400 comes with ESP, 8 airbags, PRE safe, Brake Assist, Adaptive Brakes with HOLD function, ASR and Hill Start Assist.
