India’s biggest car maker is about to challenge the players in the LCV market. Maruti Suzuki’s new LCV (codenamed Y9T) has been spied without any camouflage. The vehicle in the picture looks almost production ready and will be aimed at the Tata Ace and Mahindra Maxximo.
The front cabin is reminiscent of the Maruti Omni, which was Maruti’s only commercial offering until now in it’s cargo guise. The Y9T might be powered by an 800 cc, twin-cylinder diesel engine, the same motor is rumored to be shared with the upcoming Celerio diesel and the Eeco. While the Eeco launch could be some distance away, the Celerio and the Y9T LCV could be launched within this fiscal. Certain parts in this LCV could be shared with Maruti’s budget offerings to keep costs down, so don’t be surprised if the steering wheel or the mirror in this mini-truck is similar to that in the Alto.
