We reported when it first emerged that Maruti Suzuki wishes to enter the LCV segmen in near future. Now, it has emerged that the car maker, which would commence its first innings in the LCV segment with the Y9T, will do so sooner that we all anticipated it to happen. The Maruti Y9T will be launched in India next year and the Suzuki Carry-based pickup will be a Tata Ace adversary. The Maruti Y9T will be manufactured at the car maker’s Gurgaon facility.

It is being said that the Maruti Y9T price in India would be pegged around the INR 4 lakhs mark for the diesel version and INR 4.5-5 lakhs for the CNG version. Powering the diesel variant of the Maruti Y9T will be an all new 0.8-liter twin-cylinder oil burner that is expected to have a max power of around 40 bhp. This is the same small capacity diesel burner that will power various entry level hatchbacks in MSIL’s product portfolio. This motor would have a ‘best in class’ fuel efficiency and will have low NVH levels. The CNG motor that will power the upcoming LCV will be a 1.2 litre unit.

Worth mentioning is the fact that while the Y9T is based on the Suzuki Carry, engineers at MSIL have been working to bestow the upcoming model with a comprehensive revision, all in a bid to make it more suited to our operating conditions. Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. is yet to come up with a name for this upcoming LCV. Also, it is yet to be decided if the car maker will set a new dealership network for its upcoming LCV.
