Maruti Suzuki’s highly publicized car parade for Swift
owners turned out to be a publicity success for the manufacturer in Delhi. A
significant number of Swift owners took part in the parade managing to demolished the earlier
Guinness Record for the largest gathering of single make cars only to set a new
one! Post event, the company issued an official statement that Maruti Suzuki
has entered the Guinness Book of World Records by bringing together 342 Swift
cars at a car parade in Gurgaon (Delhi).
Maruti Suzuki had organized the “Flaunt Your Swift” car
parade simultaneously in Delhi, Chennai and Mumbai on the 30th of
May. The idea behind the event was to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the
Swift’s launch in the country. The manufacturer through its official website
had invited all Swift owners to register themselves and participate in the
parade which would be held in the above mentioned three cities. At the event, a new Guinness record was
expected to be achieved for the highest number of cars participating in a
parade. Maruti Suzuki also publicized that all participating owners would get a
special certificate for taking part.
The earlier Guinness record for the largest gathering of
single make cars was held by Ford which had organized a car parade in New Zealand
in which over 250 owners had taken part. At the Chennai leg of the Swift Car
parade, over 600 car owners had driven down to the venue but weren’t successful
in setting a new record. Owing to the unruly
behavior of the participating drivers who were not interested in following the
rules for the record, the Official judge from the Guinness book of records disqualified their record attempt.
