According to Maruti, the S-Cross owner is supposedly a “connoisseur, adventurer”, and adventurer, who enjoys his city cruise as well his weekend getaways. Since he is also “well travelled and used to 5-star hospitality”, the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross will be sold exclusively through the maker’s brand new, premium NEXA outlets.

Maruti’s first ever crossover will be powered by a choice of two diesel engines – while the range topping 320 DDiS version of the S Cross features a brand new 1.6-litre diesel engine, equipped with a variable geometry turbocharger and good enough for 118bhp; 320Nm of torque, the 200 DDis version gets the familiar 1.3-litre diesel engine, which in this trim produces 89bhp and 200Nm of torque.

The S-Cross is 4,300mm long, 1,765mm wide, and stands 1,590mm high, with a ground clearance of 180mm. To put that in perspective, it is longer, but not as tall and wide as the Hyundai Creta, which is set to be its arch rival. The Creta boasts 353 liters of boot space, but with rear seat backs flipped, space opens up to a cavernous 821 liters.

The Maruti Suzuki S-Cross will be available in 8 trim levels – the entry-level Sigma (DDiS 200 only), entry-level Delta (DDiS 320 only), Zeta and the fully-loaded Alpha. Even the base trim will feature a driver-side airbag as standard fitment. The S-Cross features disc brakes on all four wheels and ABS.

Top-spec Alpha trim gets features like automatic climate control, cruise control, rain-sensing wipers, automatic headlights with HID projector units, reverse parking sensors, a leather-wrapped steering wheel etc. 16-inch alloy wheels, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation, voice command and Bluetooth as well as a TFT screen in the instrument cluster.
