Maruti Suzuki organises women’s car rally in Pune

Automobile manufacturer Maruti Suzuki is all set to flag off its women rally based on the Time-Speed-Distance format on 6th of July. The rally is targeted at women motorsports enthusiasts and will flag off from Viman Nagar. The overall rally will be held over a route that covers 120 kilometres in and around Pune city.

Expressing his views on the rally, Manohar Bhat, Vice President, Marketing of Maruti Suzuki India said, “ With nearly two decades of experience in motorsports Maruti Suzuki’s endeavour every year is to reach out new segments. We have so far received a very encouraging response from women in our rallies. To strengthen their participation in motorsports we are experimenting with local city based rallies.”

Bhat further added, “We are confident, many women rallyists would ladder up to tougher motorsports properties such as Maruti Suzuki Raid-de-Himalaya and Maruti Suzuki Desert Storm post their pleasant experience of this rally. Our calendar is action packed for the year, and we aim to reach new markets and strengthen our rallies by introducing newer routes coupled with innovative rallying experiences!”

The objective of the rally is to navigate the route, which has hidden check points, correctly while strictly keeping to the prescribed time. The rally participants will be provided with a road book incorporating instructions based on Time Speed and Distance (TSD).

There would be two categories – one for all women crew and the second for car driven by a woman driver with mixed crew – further sub-divided into novices and experts to keep the competition even.

The event will also witness participation from some of India’s noted car rallyists such as Minaxi Purohit from Ahmedabad, Nupur Jangu from Bikaner and Khyati Modi from Mumbai. Minaxi has participated in Royal Rajasthan Rally and SJOBA rally. Also likely to participate all the way from Delhi is Kavya Saxena who stood second in her class at the recently held round of the national championship at Jaipur.
