Maruti Suzuki recently unveiled its new sedan, the Ciaz. This sedan from Maruti Suzuki was a replacement for the SX4. But we feel that the car maker is also planning to introduce a hatchback vehicle based on the Ciaz platform. A heavily camouflaged mysterious test mule was spotted in Southern Europe a few weeks ago and we feel that it might be a hatchback that will be based on the Ciaz. Meanwhile, rendered images of a Ciaz based hatchback are also doing the rounds all over the internet.

The renderings showcase a hatchback version of the Ciaz which basically looks similar to the sedan minus the boot. And we feel that the rendering is quite logical given the fact that many auto manufacturers have been designing the hatchback versions of their sedans (or vice-versa) in a similar fashion. So the hatchback Ciaz gets similar front fascia as the sedan which include projector headlights, four slat grille, air dam and fog lights. The creases and lines on the doors remain the same as the sedan and so do the 16-spoke alloy wheels. The mirrors get integrated turn indicators.

We expect the powermill to remain the same as on the Ciaz. So the petrol version will most likely be powered by a 1.4-litre K-series engine that would put out 92 PS of power and 130 Nm of torque. The diesel version will most probably be the 1.3-litre DDIS unit that produces 90 PS of power and 190 Nm of torque. The fuel efficiency figures are likely to be the same as the Ciaz if not more. So expect 20.73 kmpl figure from the petrol variant and 26.21 kmpl from the diesel.
