As per a new report that has surfaced on the cyber space, Maruti Suzuki India will be launching the Maruti Celerio CNG variant later this month. It may be noted that the Celerio is currently on sale in one single variant only, which is the 1.0 litre petrol engine with a max power of 68PS and peak torque of 90 Nm. Maruti Suzuki India Ltd also sells CNG ready variants of the Alto 800, Wagon R and the Ertiga. The CNG option for the Celerio will be available in VXi trim only.

Powering the Maruti Celerio CNG will be the same 1.0 litre K Series engine that powers the petrol variant. This engine is available with two transmission options- a five speed manual transmission and an Automated Manual Transmission. The petrol variant of the Celerio boasts of a claimed fuel efficiency of 23.1 kmpl and with the addition of a CNG unit, the running costs of the Celerio would go down even further.
The Maruti Suzuki Celerio was launched at the Auto Expo 2014 in February this year. The Celerio managed to clock almost 1000 bookings per month. While the car maker had earlier anticipated a 25-30% response for the AMT variant, it has emerged that demand for the AMT variant is as high as that for the manual variant, thereby leading demand overshooting supply by a considerable margin. It is being said that the local assembly of AMT unit will commence next year. This should help bring down the waiting period for the AMT variant.
